November 12, 2009

The baseball season is over, but Derek Jeter continues to collect the hardware.

Along with teammate Mark Teixiera, Jeter was awarded a Gold Glove this week. The always reliable Jeter helped the New York Yankees win the 27th World Series in franchise history this month.

Video: Hideki Matsui’s home run from Wednesday

November 6, 2009

It’s easy to see why Hideki Matsui’s nickname is “Godzilla.” The Yankees slugger is a monster when he’s at bat.

Here is Matsui’s two-run homer from Wednesday’s 7-3 series-clinching victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Matsui was named the World Series MVP for such a standout performance. He batted .615 for the Series, going eight-for-13 with eight RBIs, including two solo homers prior to Game 6.

Love them or hate them, you have to respect them.

New York Yankees win the 2009 World SeriesBaseball’s big kids on the block, the New York Yankees, clinched the 2009 World Series with last night’s 7-3 Game 6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Series MVP Hideki Matsui pounded out a two-run homer and a two-run double to help the Yankees reach their 27th title in franchise history.

It’s the Yankees’ first championship since 2000, and it’s a big one for Alex Rodriguez.

Winning the first title of his career, A-Rod shook the perception that he crumbles in crunch time. He had a .365 batting average throughout the playoffs to go with a laundry list of big hits, six home runs and 18 RBIs.

“He’s a world champion,” general manager Brian Cashman said to reporters after the game. “No one can say anything about him anymore. He’s performed in October. He’s performed on the biggest stage. He’s got a World Series ring coming his way, and he deserves it.”

In honor of New York’s championship, we’re carrying the official Yankees championship locker room t-shirt.

You may recognize it from the footage of last night’s celebration, however your t-shirt will not arrive covered in champagne.
