Call it a statement game. The United States defeated Canada 5-3 this past weekend in men’s hockey at the Vancouver Olympic Games.
It was none other than Chris Drury who put the USA ahead for good with a third-period goal.
And why not?
He has a history of playing in big games, after all.
When he was 13, Drury pitched his hometown Trumbull (Conn.) National Little League to the 1989 Little League baseball World Series Championship.
He pitched a complete game in the final as Trumbull defeated Chinese Taipei’s Kang-Tu Little League 5-2 that year.
Drury played both baseball and hockey through high school, until a wrist injury ended his baseball career.
“Basically, the injury made me decide between baseball and hockey,” Drury says. “I chose hockey.”
The US Men’s Hockey Team will play either Switzerland or Belarus tomorrow at 11 a.m. Central Time in the quarterfinal round of the hockey playoffs.
