Thursday trivia: Called out on a walkoff RBI… What’s the call?

August 19, 2010

It’s that time again. It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for our weekly baseball trivia question.

How does it work?

It’s simple. We give you a scenario from a baseball game. You tell us what call the umpire should make, if the umpire should make a call at all.

Here’s this week’s scenario:

Bottom of the ninth, two outs, winning run on third. Batter hits to deep right, and the runner trots home.

Caught up in the moment, the batter sticks around and celebrates. As he celebrates, the defense throws the ball back to first, where the first baseman steps on the bag.

What’s the call?

Thursday trivia: Is the batter out if the ball bounces off the wall?

August 5, 2010

It’s that time again. It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for our weekly baseball trivia question.

How does it work?

It’s simple. We give you a scenario from a baseball game. You tell us what call the umpire should make, if the umpire should make a call at all.

Here’s this week’s scenario:

With a runner on second, the batter hits a fly ball headed for deep center.

The fielder follows it to the warning track and catches it after it bounces off the wall (but doesn’t hit the ground).

Without tagging up, the runner rounds third and crosses home. What’s the call?
