Playing fall ball? Join the fight against breast cancer with a Pink Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat

October 6, 2011

Pink Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a great time to sport some pink.

That’s because the fight against cancer touches us all. According to the American Cancer Society, there are 11.7 million Americans currently living with cancer. They’re our friends, our co-workers and our family members.

One of the most common — and deadly — forms of cancer among women is breast cancer. Every year, more than 200,000 women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,000 are killed by the disease. They’re our mothers, wives and daughters.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we wear pink as a tribute to those around us who have been touched by breast cancer.

In time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have stocked a limited quantity of pink Louisville Slugger Hard Maple Baseball Bats. They’re the exact same bats that major league players used on Mother’s Day this year.

It’s Louisville Slugger’s M110 Turning Model, sporting a pink finish. The evenly balanced, game-ready bat has closed grains in its maple, which makes for a huge sweet spot and greater performance.

Because it’s fully wood, this bat is legal for use in NCAA, NFHS and several youth and travel leagues.

Get it for $59.99 — or get it personalized for $69.99 — at Baseball Express.

Footwear Friday: Nike’s Air Huarache Baseball Cleats have withstood the test of time

March 4, 2011

Nike's Air Huarache Baseball Cleats

Even as newer and flashier baseball cleats have hit the shelves over the past year, Nike’s Air Huarache Baseball Cleats have always remained among our most popular styles.

Why?

It’s all about substance. The Huaraches have the features that baseball players want.

  • They’re comfortable. These baseball cleats feature a full-length Phylon midsole with Air Sole unit for comfort and response.
  • They’re durable. Nike’s Air Huarache metal baseball cleats can take a beating, thanks to their rugged synthetic leather upper and V9 outsole.
  • They’re lightweight. Their high-performance design (14.6 oz) makes it easy to move around on the field.
  • They’re stylish. Colors to go with almost every uniform combination.
  • Get a pair for $89.99 at Baseball Express.

Our take on the final Thursday trivia question

August 5, 2010

They don’t really emphasize it in the video, but the final ruling by the umpires was that Maier was out for running back to third and turning towards second, abandoning his effort. Because Maier had already left the bag by the time Betancourt was tagged, Betancourt had a legal right to the base, so he was safe.

Geren wanted a double play, and he was ejected for arguing it.

Our take: We’ll give the umps the benefit of the doubt. By Rule 7.08a, Maier is either out by abandoning his effort or leaving the baseline to avoid the fielder.

If two runners are on a base, the trailing runner is out when tagged (7.03). But when Betancourt was tagged, he was the only person standing on the base.

Geren got tossed for arguing a judgment call (9.01c, 9.02a).

Sticky situation for sure. We liked the quote from KC manager Ned Yost: “Somebody was going — either [Geren] or me. Someone was getting thrown out on that one.”
