Thursday trivia: Intentionally dropped pop-up… What’s the call?

February 18, 2010

It’s time for another edition of Thursday trivia!

Here’s this week’s first question:

With a runner on first and one out, a batter hits a weak pop-up directly to the second baseman. Instead of catching the ball for the out, the second baseman intentionally drops the ball, picks it up and steps on second for the force-out. He throws to first for a double-play.

What’s the call?

If you know the answer, post it here, give us a Tweet or find us on Facebook.

While you think it over, here’s a science channel clip about science of fielding a baseball.

(Check out that patch on their shoulders. Pretty nifty, eh?)

Play like you’re a Michoacán prince with Nike’s Air Huarache baseball cleats

February 17, 2010

Contrary to what the name implies, Nike’s Air Huarache baseball cleats aren’t sandals.

But they’re similar in a lot of ways:

  • They’re comfortable. Just like their Mexican sandal namesake, Nike’s Air Huarache metal baseball cleats feel good. These baseball cleats feature a full-length Phylon midsole with Air Sole unit for comfort and response.
  • Nike Air Huarache Mid Metal Grey Baseball Cleats

  • They’re durable. A good pair of huaraches can last 10 years or longer. Nike’s Air Huarache metal baseball cleats can take a beating too, thanks to their rugged synthetic leather upper and V9 outsole.
  • They’re lightweight. Their high-performance design makes it easy to move around on the field.
  • They’re stylish. Huaraches look great on the beach. Air Huaraches look great on a diamond.

For all the similarities, there is still one difference between huarache sandals and Nike’s Air Huaraches:

  • Ankle support. Sandals aren’t going to help much in that area. But Nike’s Air Huarache metal baseball cleats feature a sturdy mid-top fit and an ankle strap for superior fit and support.

Get them at Baseball Express for $89.99.
